April 2019:

Homeward LA, a collection of monologues reflecting the true stories of people who have experienced homelessness in Los Angeles, raised over $100,000 from 54 productions over ten days for LA's Midnight Mission. The Midnight Mission has been providing services to help the homeless in LA since 1914! I was proud to have taken part as an actor.

July - November, 2012:

The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity

Nominated for a Henry Award for Best Production of the Year for the 2012-13 theater season in Denver!

I played the lead in Kristoffer Diaz's play, The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity (Finalist for the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama), in back-to-back productions at the Curious Theatre in Denver and Theatreworks in Colorado Springs. I am extremely proud of this production which garnered unanimous praise from audiences and reviewers in both cities.

Here are some of the things reviewers said about me:

"... the heart of the art and soul of this play belongs to Macedonio Guerra (Michael Lopez)."

                                                                            Lisa Kennedy, the Denver Post

"There are distinct roles in the theatrical canon... that are so specific to

certain actors’ innate charm and physical characteristics that those actors

could play them from town to town for the next 10 years. Byas and Lopez live in the skins of their characters in that kind of way. It’s all the more remarkable that Byas, from New York, and Lopez, from California, are creating their roles for the first time here."

                                                                        John Moore, CultureWest, Denver

I was subsequently nominated by Mr. Moore for the  2012 CultureWest.com True West Award for Best Actor in a comic role.

"...and you fall at least halfway in love with Michael Lopez, who gives Mace both vulnerability and dignity."

                                                                    Juliette Wittman, Westword, Denver

Denver's Westword Magazine went on to name me 2012 Best Actor in a Comedy.

"Lopez (Mace), in particular, deserves recognition. The play rests primarily on his shoulders...  Lopez manages to make you feel as though he's chatting with you across the bar."

Daliah Singer, 5280, The Denver Magazine

"LA-actor Michael Lopez gives this character real heart, telling his story with an easygoing demeanor and a wry wit."

                                                  Todd Wallinger, Colorado Springs Independent

"Lopez navigates Guerra with mesmerizing ease. Guerra is smart, funny and the audience’s lovable proxy. He seduces us with his humanity... "

T.D. Moblet-Martinez, the Colorado Springs Gazette
